Fiber, Friends & Fiascos

All of my friends would consider me a nailpolish addict.  Everytime I’m at the store I am automatically drawn to the beauty section and I can’t leave without purchasing at least one new color to add to my collection. Tonight, I decided to take an “artsy” photo of my nailpolishes all color coordinated (yes I am THAT cool). Ali was my featured photographer of the night and captured the precious bottles at their best angle! Major props my friend. I also love all of the creative names that they have, it is part of the reason why I buy so many of them.  Tonight, I painted mine with Essie “Too Too Hot” which is part of their fabulous Summer Collection. Ali painted hers with “Super Bossa Nova” which is another Essie Summer Collection color.

I am in love with “Too Too Hot” it reminds me of summer- bright and exciting!

My friend Ali thought of the brilliant idea to make BLATs (Bacon, Lettuce, Avo, Tomato)! They were so delicious.  We made a special trip to Whole Foods to pick up the freshest materials to create them: Freshly sliced applewood smoked bacon, organic lettuce, the ripest avocados, and tomatoes.  It was also COMPLETELY necessary to pick up a few items from the hot bar including: cauliflower cakes, zucchini latkes, grilled veggies with couscous, mozzarella pasta salad, quinoa cakes, and roasted brussel sprouts (seen in the photo)! 

The brussel sprouts were so flavorful and had a great olive oil/seasoning on them.

I should probably explain why I put “Fiber” into my blog title. I have a passion for fibrous foods and beans are one of my favorite fiber-filled options to eat on a daily basis. My top three bean loves are chickpeas, black beans, and lentils. YUM!

First off, I want to dedicate my blog title to Siobhan since she has gotten us all addicted to saying the word “tings” instead of “things.” Her Dad actually says “tings” on purpose since he has a “tick” (thick) irish accent! 

I am currently being nostalgic in my temporary room in Pacific Beach since I am moving in exactly six days back to San Francisco! I recently just graduated from the University of San Diego in May! I am currently jobless, but I am hoping to work in SF soon enough.

Most of these dese tings are going to be restaurants… :). 

1. My lovely house in Mission Beach. I resided there for a year with my bestie from high school, Sio, and my other bestie AJ.  We had countless GTs (great times) in that house from cooking up fun meals like Mexican Pizzas, Meatball subs, and Empenadas to classic games of beer pong on our nugget wooden (vocab word Allie got us all addicted to saying as well) kitchen table.  

2. Olive Cafe- My favorite breakfast place of all time! It is run by a precious woman named Sarah who went to USD back in the day.  It is so cozy and quaint and it is the best cure to a hangover in the morning.  It WAS also conveniently next door which was great for my tummy, but not so great for my bank account (they do take campus cash though!!).  AJ would barge (literally) into my room every Friday morning around 9am and we would slowly shuffle over there looking haggard from the night before. Allie and occasionally Sio (if we could force her out of bed) would obvi join us for some feasting as well. My favorite dishes: The Breakfast Burrito with sausage or soy chorizo (if I’m in a vegetarian mood), and The Chef’s Choice no bacon add avo. YUM.

3. Burger Lounge- The most flavorful and appetizing burger I have ever eaten! Not to mention their fries and onion rings are super fresh and delish.

4. The Mission- My personal fave is the Chicken Apple Sausage & eggs! They also have great lattes and coffee in general.

5. Simply just being able to walk everywhere esp. to get some quick food (usually Mexican).

6. Sara’s- A little mexican food stand that has hands-down THE BEST BURRITOS. They are gigantic, fresh, and DELISH (of course).

7. Corepower Yoga- I have been doing hot yoga for a year and 4 months now and I am OBSESSED with it. It is so relaxing and makes me feel cleansed and de-stressed immediately after I walk out the door. Sad thing is, the closest Corepower is in Berkeley which is 30 miles away… :(. I’m praying they open one up closer to me in the near future! PLEASE PLEASE!!! For now, I will be attending Bikram Yoga classes at Being Yoga. Sorry for cheating on you Corepower, you will always be my favorite studio!

8. PB Bars- My two faves being: Tavern and Firehouse and if I am up for a real dive bar scene: the classic Sandbar and Coaster are always teeming with USD students on Thursday nights.

9. Rubicon Deli- Their sandwiches are HUGE and filled with fresh ingredients and bursting with flavor! I highly recommend the pesto bread.

10. Being neighbors with all of my friends especially Allie who lived four blocks away #WAH

11. Empire Beauty- All year long buy 1 nail polish get 1 half off! BEST DEAL EVER! Not to mention they have like every shade of OPI and Essie in the entire world lined up on the shelves thur

Well, I guess I should introduce myself to the wonderful world of Tumblr.  This is a pic of me and one of my dearest besties, Allie, who helped me to create my lil blog.  She is off to India in exactly four days to teach English at an orphanage! Truly amazing. I’m going to miss you so much (not that I don’t miss you already)!
